The relevance of Common admission tests

The admissions to various professional programs in various Indian Universities and autonomous institutes in India have been through common entrance test conducted either by the universities or by the institutes or some times by an association of these institutes. The objective of such independent screening test is to find natural talents from the students rather than book worms for the courses since the exams are conducted independently and the patterns dynamic and objective. It is thus a better way of finding the best talents for the premiere courses in any university.

GECT in brief!

Common entrance test was introduced in the state of Gujarat for two most popular professional programs in the universities in the state viz MBA and MCA from the year 2002. The idea was to bring uniformity in the admission to these courses and making it more student friendly in terms of time and cost. All the universities in the state of Gujarat are participating in this common entrance test. The government has issued detailed guidelines with regard to eligibility and reservation of seats as per the program. The program includes a written test, group discussion and personal interview and separate marks are assigned for all. Graduates who have either passed the degree examination from any of the universities of Gujarat is eligible besides those who have passed the XII from the state of Gujarat but has taken a degree from outside state are also eligible. The mark restriction for the general candidate is 50%.

The written test follows the pattern of other common entrance test in the country like CAT, MAT, and other international tests like GMAT, GRE etc. Questions on numerical ability, reading comprehension, data analysis, Language proficiency, data sufficiency, critical reasoning And Indian and global environment finds a place in the test paper. Every year the announcement for the test is published in the media.
